Jim Lamb's blog

Just a quick note for those working with TFS to automate web deployments: Jim Lamb's blog provides a huge wealth of information and experience on this. :)

TFS Offline Server Sync Across Separate Networks

Our SW product development takes place across physically separate networks. Information can only flow 1-way from one environment to the next. So, we need a way to export changes to file, transfer into a separate environment, and import so as to sync up the changes between TFS servers. We need source code sync at a minimum, but ideally we would like to sync all changes.

I welcome all thoughts and ideas on this.

TFS Data Manager

I evaluated the TFS Data Manager product from One Pulse, Inc. From what I read, the product could tremendously simplify backup/restore and support moves/migrations of TFS data at lower levels of granularity. However, my evaluation discovered problems that may or may not be related to the TFS installation configuration. There appears to be no logging mechanism that can be used for providing logs to the vendor to support debugging. I have dropped any further use of the product for now.

List of Team Build Properties

This list of TFS 2008 build properties on Aaron Hallberg's site is so useful that I posted it here.

Branching Patterns for Parallel Development

Streamed Lines: Branching Patterns for Parallel Software Development is a benchmark work by SCM guru Brad Appleton. I was recently turned on to this work. Must reading for good dialogs on branching strategy.
